What are you going to do in Santander?

Do you need to go from Santander to El Puntal beach in Somo (Spain)? Here is some more information ...

In front of Santander, in the middle of the bay, you can see a large sandbar, El Puntal beach (Playa del Puntal). This is an enormous 2.5-kilometer beach that extends to the town of Loredo, passing through Somo (to which it belongs).

It is possibly one of the best beaches in Cantabria where you can enjoy spectacular sunsets. This beach has a popular beach bar (chiringuito) named Tricio (https://chiringuitoelpuntaltricio.com) in an area where you can see various yachts and jet skis.

Not only is the crystal-clear water one of its attractions, but the views of Santander are also impressive, allowing you to see the Magdalena Peninsula from the best possible vantage point.

It’s worth noting that part of the beach is designated for nudists and that dogs are allowed at certain hours and on specific dates.

Important recommendations before you go to El Puntal Beach:

This beach is quite wild, so there are certain recommendations before you go:

  • Check the schedule for the last boat and keep your ticket for the return trip.

  • Bring water and food (although you can buy them at the beach bar there).

  • Bring sun protection, something to cover yourself with, and if storms or rain are expected, something to protect yourself.

  • The boat allows dogs, but it’s best to inquire before you go.

  • There are toilets at the beach bar right where the boat drops you off.

  • There is a strong current in this area, so be careful where you swim and always follow the lifeguards’ instructions (look at the flags: red means no swimming, yellow means swim with caution, and green means it’s safe to swim).
