Are you thinking about taking a boat ride around Santander (Spain)?
Taking a boat ride around Santander is a great plan, as long as the conditions allow it. It gives you the chance to see the city from a different perspective and, if you’re lucky, even spot some marine wildlife!
When we talk about a boat ride around Santander, perhaps the most famous excursion is the one that covers the entire bay and the Sardinero. It’s the most recommended trip, as you’ll sail around the bay’s exit between the Magdalena Peninsula and Puntal Beach (everything is closer than you think!). After circling the Magdalena Peninsula (where you’ll see the Magdalena Palace), on your way to Cabo Mayor, you’ll get a view of the entire Sardinero area. On the way back, the boat goes around Mouro Island before re-entering the bay, where you’ll see interesting spots like the Botín Center from the sea!
This excursion is organized by Los Reginas, and we definitely recommend booking it in advance since it is in high demand. We also suggest trying to be among the first to board the boat to secure a good spot on the side, allowing you to fully enjoy the ride!
Is there another boat excursion in Santander that you would recommend?
Yes, while they may not be as interesting, we also recommend visiting Puntal Beach (especially in summer) and Somo. The ride crosses the bay, but you won’t get to enjoy areas like the Magdalena Peninsula, Sardinero, or Mouro Island. In our sections ‘how to get to Puntal Beach’ and ‘how to get to Somo’ we provide all the details. Another option to consider is the excursion through the Ría de Cubas.
Is there something I should keep in mind when I want to take a boat ride around Santander?
Definitely keep an eye on the weather and sea conditions. Even if the bay seems calm, there might be waves in open water. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend preparing just in case. The boats usually have a bar where you can buy soft drinks and snacks. There is also a covered area on the boat in case of rain.
How can I book an excursion around the bay of Santander?
As we recommended earlier, a good option for safety and flexibility is to do it through Civitatis, as it allows you to book with the local tour operator at the same price in a simpler way. Below you have the direct link:
