Today, we want to recommend some beaches to visit with your children in Santander (Spain). Previously, we discussed the top 5 beaches in Santander on our blog, but that doesn’t mean they are the best option if you’re visiting with kids.

Generally, when we talk about the best beaches, we refer to those that are peaceful, beautiful, and offer amenities for adults.

However, when traveling with children, the priorities are different: safety (beaches with calm waters and even dedicated children’s areas), accessibility (parking, public transport, showers, and restrooms), and nearby services (restaurants, bars, and ice cream shops).

Today, we present three urban beaches in Santander that you should consider if you’re traveling with children.

Here is our selection of the best beaches for kids in Santander (click on the title to link to Google Maps):

1- Bikinis Beach, Magdalena Beach and Los Peligros Beach.

Bikinis Beach, Magdalena Beach, and Los Peligros Beach are all connected, so we mention them together:

All three beaches are located on one side of the Magdalena Peninsula, opposite Puntal Beach.

These are the only beaches in the area that are enclosed with safety barriers. They are easily accessible by public transport (bus), offer all necessary services such as restrooms, drinking fountains, and lifeguards, and even have a notable number of parking spaces available.

You can also often find small pedal boats with slides for rent in front of the Balneario de La Magdalena restaurant.

Without a doubt, these beaches are among the best options.

2-El Sardinero Beach (Primera y Segunda Playa)

A classic of the city, this family-friendly beach is possibly the most popular in Santander.

With plenty of parking spaces, restaurants, and bars, it’s an ideal option if you’re visiting with children. It even has a dedicated play area for kids.

The beach offers public restrooms and lifeguard services both on the beach and in the water.

As for the water, it poses no danger as long as the green flag is up, allowing swimming without restrictions.

3- El Camello Beach

Located between Sardinero and on the opposite side of the Magdalena Peninsula, El Camello Beach is our final recommended option.

Like the others, it is easily accessible by public transport, has a large public parking area, lifeguards, and places to buy ice cream.

The water is sheltered despite the presence of large rocks, but keep in mind that this is a small beach, so it can get quite crowded, which might limit children’s play on busy days.

Beaches to Avoid if You’re Visiting Santander with Children

We do not recommend Mataleñas Beach due to its difficult access (many stairs) and its poor connections with the rest of the city.

Likewise, Los Molinucos Beach is not ideal because it requires a walk to reach, is small, and has limited lifeguard services.

Finally, Puntal Beach in Somo is a neutral option; we only recommend the southern side (where the ferry drops you off). The downside is the number of boats, access issues, and the water’s cleanliness due to the boat traffic. The opposite side is better but quite dangerous due to strong currents.
