Are you looking for dog-friendly beaches in Santander and Cantabria? We can help.

Spain, and Cantabria in particular, is very tolerant of dogs and pets. However, there are certain rules to follow when looking for dog-friendly beaches in the Santander and Cantabria area.

It is important to note that not all beaches allow dogs, and this decision is made locally by the municipalities. Failure to comply with the regulations can result in fines, so it is crucial to get informed before heading to the beach with your canine friends.

Although not directly related, it is also important to consider traffic laws to ensure that your dog travels safely in the car to the beach.

If you decide to use public transportation, it’s important to check if dogs are allowed.

It is important to note that fines for bringing pets into prohibited areas can range from 100 euros to 3,000 euros.

Playa de La Riberuca, in Suances, is a peaceful beach located in the heart of the town. With 850 meters of fine golden sand (which can look like mud due to its location at the estuary) and ample parking, it is an ideal beach to enjoy with your dog.

There are no restrictions, and it can be visited every day of the year.

Be cautious of the surf, as there are strong currents.

In the heart of Castro, we have another option to enjoy with our pets.

Playa de Trengandín, also known as Playa de Helgueras, is a very popular beach not only in Noja but also in Cantabria.

It has a designated dog-friendly area in the eastern part, specifically in the last 400 meters, next to Monte El Brusco.

Access on foot from the town is challenging, so we recommend going by car.
